
Balian Buschbaum is a former German pole vaulter, bronze medalist twice the European championships, indoor vice of Europe ( 2002 ). World record-holder in the junior age categories. Buschbaum biggest international success was among the junior gold medal in the junior European Championships in Athletics ( Riga 1999). Twice was third in the championship of Europe - ( Budapest in 1998 and Munich 2002 ).
In 2002, he reached for the silver in the indoor European Championships in 2002, where he got the result of 4.65 m, just behind Svetlana Fieofanową (4.75 m), and before the Pole Monika Pyrek (4.60 m). Buschbaum participated in the Olympic Games ( Sydney 2000), took 6th place in the final contest women’s pole vault. His personal best was 4.70 m. It was established June 29, 2003 in his native village - Ulm. This ranks Buschbaum second among German pole vaulters, only behind Annika Becker.
On November 21, 2007 Buschbaum announced his retirement from the sport due to a persistent injury and the desire to begin gender reassignment. In January 2008, Buschbaum announced that his new first name was “Balian”, after the blacksmith in the movie Kingdom of Heaven, and that he would undergo gender reassignment surgery later that year. December 20 passed the first hormonal treatments.
